1. Surf to the following link: http://www.java.com and install the version of Java they suggest. This is important! You must have their latest version. They might tell you that you already have the latest version.
2. Click on the following link: jedit4.3pre18-Lazy8Ledger-2.24-install.jar and you will immediately begin downloading jEdit and Lazy8Ledgers install program. Click (possibly double-click) on the file you just downloaded to start the install program.
3. Remember where the installation program says it put the program you need to start. Use you “explorer” and go to that directory and right-click on jEdit.jar and choose “copy.” Then right-click on your desktop and choose “paste shortcut”. There are of course drag-and-drop possibilities here as well.
4. Click on your newly created link. When you get the question about “Do you want to setup lazy8 ledger” answer “yes”
5. When you get the question about “username” and “password”, leave both fields EMPTY.
6. Create your company and list of accounts.
7. Good luck and let us know how it went and suggestions to improve these instructions.

I had problems installing on my Xp. On the page describing installing jEdit they talked about not using the stable version, but I couldn’t find any other. It didn’t work. Now I can’t find where I put in that comment. (Maybe I was in the Swedish version of this homepage!)
Anyhow I’m trying this page version now. It seems to be working. I don’t know if I clicked something wrong, but after installing jEdit, it started again.
When I started the program the setup instuction fields were very difficult to see! (a light blue. I couldn’t make the text more visible by selecting either) Once I’ve started the program many of the fields are also this almost unreadable light blue. Is there somewhere one can influence this?
Hello Jeff, Yes, I answered your question about the version on the Swedish site. It is fine the version you got. I need to change my instructions in the jEdit install page. All the fonts and colors can be changed if you go to the global settings menu. You can even download a plugin to jEdit that changes themes so you can get some really beautiful colors/buttons/dialogs…Let me know if you have more problems..
I have gotten a little problem:
A “plugin error” window says about 3 different jars:
the following plugins could not be loaded
C:\Documents and Settings\Jeff\.jedit\jars\Lazy8Ledger.jar:
Two copies installed. Please remove one of the two copies.
There is only one copy of each there (Having more with the same name is impossible) so I don’t understand. I assume there is some rest (in the registry?) of the fact the the installation repeated.
The plugin for changing themes, is that “Look and Feel”? Can you recommend a plugin and theme you like?
Länken till “bokföringskurs” går till en 404
Another small detail: There is a little fish that jumps up in the upper right corner. Seems clickable but nothing happens. What is that?
Hello Jeff, Glad you mentioned this problem. This can easily occur when installing Lazy8Ledger twice and with 2 different installation methods. You do in fact have 2 Lazy8Ledger.jar’s but as you said, it is impossible that they are both in the same directory. The other one is in the “other” jedit “jar” directory which is c:\ProgramFiles\jEdit\jars.
What is important is that you try to determine which is the latest version. They might be the exact same version as well. You can’t go by the date normally but the largest in size is usually the latest version. If in doubt, delete the one they said they could not load, i.e., C:\Documents and Settings\Jeff\.jedit\jars\Lazy8Ledger.jar
This is an irritating error but actually it works fine anyway. It just wants to warn you that it is ignoring one of the Lazy8Ledger.jar files.
The jumping fish: It is the symbol that tells you that the built in webbrowser that is showing the context help is working searching for files.
Plugin theme? Yes, it is look and feel. I once used the aqua theme. http://www.randelshofer.ch/quaqua/index.html. But you get tired of all the different colors after a while and then just go back to the standard look and feel.
