1. You must have the latest version of either Sun-Java or OpenJDK. If you are unsure then go to a command window and write “java -version” and if you get Java 1.6 then it should work. But if you have problems then you need to remove your current version of java and surf to: http://www.java.com and install the version they suggest.
2. Do a “Java installation” but in linux, it is best to do the installation in a command window instead of “clicking” to start the file. Log in as root (or put sudo before the command):
java -jar jedit4.3pre18-Lazy8Ledger-2.24-install.jar text
That way you will get all the files installed in the best places on your harddisk instead of just getting everything put into your home directory.
