Versions

2009-11-25 Lazy 8 ledger version 2.24

Bug fixes.

1. Changed AccountSummary report. Added Incomming and outgoing balances.
2. Changed the Customer/Project transaction report. Added totals to each account group
3. It is more friendly to OpenJava (as opposed to just Sun Java). Before it hanged during installation using OpenJava and most any other process.
4. It is complient with the new jEdit 4.3.15 which means you must use the latest jEdit (download from http://jedit.org) if you dont already have it
5. Fixed an unreported bug where customer/project transactions text report did not work. It just crashed. Apparently nobody needed it anyway.
6. No longer hidding the buffer-switcher by default. This won’t effect existing installations, only new ones. Now with buffer-tabs and buffer-switcher there are 2 ways unfortuneately in SunJava installations. It is easy to turn one of these off. It is only the default that has 2.

2008-02-11 Lazy 8 ledger version 2.23

2004-08-13 Lazy 8 ledger version 2.19

Minor bug fixes.

1. Setting the default accounting period did not work in some cases. Fixed
2. The default page size was always A4. Now the default page size depends on what is the default language and country. That means that for USA it is Letter size and for most others it is A4.

2004-07-20 Lazy 8 ledger version 2.18

1. Customer/project reports added in the last version were completely redone in this version.
2. Added a new report called Trial Balances.

4. Lots of very minor changes everywhere, both in the documentation and in the program.

2004-07-03 Lazy 8 ledger version 2.16

Functionality changes and bug fixes.

1. Fixed that adding customers or accounts in the customer/account forms are updated into the transaction form without restarting the program. This is actually a new communication between all windows. If one window is updated, all the other windows are updated. Before, to update all the windows, you were required to restart the program.
2. Added flexibility into the account types. Before there were only “assets, debts, incomes, expenses” account types. Now you may have any number of account types, although the default is the “assets, debts, incomes, expenses” or “assets, debts, equity, incomes, expenses” (equity specifically added for North America). All given/added account types are summerized in the Balance/Result report.
3. Added new reports “Customer/Project Transactions” and “Customer/Project Accounts”
4. Added Auto-incrementing of the Customer/Project-Id number in the Customer/Project Form. To activate the “Auto-increment” you must hit the “Clear” button in some cases.
5. Added a “Default Account” to the Customer/Project definition.. This “Default Account” will be automatically added to the Transaction Form when a Customer/Project is selected and no account is already entered into the Transaction Form for that row.
6. Added “Allow re-adding” old transactions as new transactions (or any type of record for that matter). This possibility is added to perhaps save some time entering data. It was not allowed before as a safety precaution in the case that somebody hits the Add button instead of the desired Change button. Warning messages are given when re-adding to help avoid mistakes..
7. It was possible to delete a customer/project for which entries exist in the transaction table. Fixed
8. Improved the user interface in the Transaction Entry form. Some fields did not get updated as they should when using the mouse intensively.

2004-06-22 Lazy 8 ledger version 2.15

Minor functionality change.

1. Many requested that it be possible to leave the invoice date in the transaction input screen from the previous entry so that they wouldn’t have to type in the date every time. It is done and it is an option.

2002-06-08 Lazy 8 ledger version 1.31

1. If you used Java 1.3 instead of Java 1.4 then the database backup that should happen when you exit Lazy8Ledger didnt work. It is fixed now.

2002-05-14 Lazy 8 ledger version 1.2

1. There are no code changes in this release. The purpose of this release is to fix a distribution problem. There are a lot of version 1.1′s out there that dont work due to distribution problems that messed up the program. This 1.2 version is the same as the 1.1 but we have hopefully worked out the distribution problems.

2002-05-09 Lazy 8 ledger released officially as a jEdit plugin

1. Now that Lazy 8 ledger is released officially as a jEdit plugin, anytime a new version of Lazy8Ledger is released, you can quickly download the new version by the push of a button and the new version is automatically installed. The step by step technique is as follows.

2. Start your internet connection. Start jEdit (Lazy8Ledger). Select the menu Plugins->Plugin manager. Then push the button update plugins. If you have an older version of Lazy8Ledger, it will tell you and suggest that you give the OK for the download of the new version. When you press ok, the new version is downloaded and installed. Thats all. Easy as can be.

2002-05-01 Release of version 1.1

Changes between version 1.0 and 1.1

1. Added to the installation wizard a question at the very beginning asking if they really want to do the installation wizard now or not.

2. Added a tutorial to help beginners quickly learn Lazy8 Ledger.

2002-04-25 Release of production version 1.0

1. Finally released publicly, Lazy8Leger version 1.0

2002-03-20 Decision made to change Lazy8Ledger into a jEdit plugin

1. A few days before, I had received my first version of jEdit, which is a programmers tool. I fell immediately in love with it and made the quick decision to turn Lazy8Ledger into a plugin to jEdit.

2. This was a major stop in the planned release of Lazy8Ledger but the benefits of making Lazy8Ledger a jEdit plugin were too great to be ignored.

3. This began an intensive 5 weeks of converting Lazy8Leger to a plugin.

2002-02-11 Found a fantastic freeware java database McKoi!

1. This was a critical point in the development. This project had been plagued with database problems because the current database was a freestanding, non-java program, MySql. MySql is a fantastic database for super servers but for people who are not computer system administrators, MySql is just a little bit too much. Then I found McKoi. It was perfect for our program and I installed it and it worked GREAT. No more installation and maintenance problems!.

2002-02-10 Lazy8Leger becomes free, open source

1. Bo Carlson and I decided that the best way to get a lot of people using our program would be to make it free.

2002-01-30 Context help

1. Decided to add context help. That means that at whatever field or point in the program a user is, he/she will have available (and visible) help text to guide him/her.

2002-01-01 The pressure is on to release Lazy8Ledger

1. Both my accountant and I felt that we have put off for too long the release of Lazy8Ledger. Now it is time to put on the finishing touches to release it.

2001-01-01 Documentation

1. Began making the documentation for Lazy8Ledger

2. The documentation was difficult because it needed to be done in two languages, Swedish and English

2000-11-05 The first user, other than myself, of Lazy8Leger

1. My wife Karin began using Lazy8Leger for her company ‘Qui Mai’.

2000-10-20 My accountants Bo and Ingrid Carlson encouraged me to go public with Lazy8Leger

1. Bo and Ingrid encouraged me and also began helping me design Lazy8Ledger.

2. They helped me with terminology, translation (Swedish), and most importantly, what is needed for a good bookkeeping program

2000-07-26 First working version of Lazy8Ledger

1. Much of what you see in today’s working version was here working and being tested already at this date.

2. Since this point, Lazy8Ledger has been in working production but not publicly released.

2000-05-01 Began programming Lazy8Ledger

1. I needed a bookkeeping program for my companies ‘Dilts Automation Konsult’ and ‘Lazy Eight Data HB’, but I couldn’t find anything that was interesting for my needs. At the same time, I needed to practice Java programming so this was my project to teach myself Java programming as well.

2. I was not good at bookkeeping either so I bought some books on ‘double entry’ bookkeeping.
