Hi Bob, just go to the <a href="http://lazy8.nu/download-lazy8ledger/jedit-installation/" rel="nofollow">Jedit installation menu</a> and then to the section "Optional Extra installation instructions" and follow those instructions. That will get you the latest version. We are working hard to get the version that jEdit has in thier mirrors updated. Hopefully in a month or so it will be updated.

I tried the Jedit installation as suggested. Jedit 4.3 installs version 2.18 of Lazy8Ledger by default, which seems to run fine. How can I get Jedit to install version 2.24 of Lazy8Ledger?

I could understand this problem on Vista but not on Windows 2000. Could you on both computers delete the c:\users\(username)\.jedit\ directory and the c:\program\jeditxxxx directory. Then do the <a href="http://lazy8.nu/download-lazy8ledger/jedit-installation/" rel="nofollow">jedit installation</a> that is described here under download->jEdit installation. In that installation it is much more tailored for the Windows environment so it should work better for you. Let me know if it works!

I changed to a Windows 2000 computer. I downloaded and installed the latest Java. I installed the program in the default directory with no problems. When I launch the program it stops at the splash screen. It looks like it runs some scripts and then stalls about 75% of the way through, leaving the splash screen hanging.

ok, this sounds like a vista problem with all the "administrator-rights" problems. The reason that it is freezing when the splash screen comes up is because it is trying to create MANY directories and sub directories under the c:\users\(username)\.jedit\plugins\ directory. Obviously the program does not have the "rights" to create these directories. I must admit I have never heard of such a problem before under windows so I am a little suprized. Can you check what security setup you have for this directory? Everybody should be allowed to write there and create directories..

I checked and I have the correct java version. I right clicked the install jar file and "unblocked" the file, however this had no effect. I tried to reinstall the program. I got a windows dialog labelled as instalation aborted - "The installer could not create the destination directory. Maybe you do not have write permission?" However, I am logged on as administrator.

Hello Bob, My splash screen idea was wrong. The splash screen problem I was thinking of only shows up in some Linux installations, not in Windows. So I am still a bit puzzeled about your problem. The only thing I can think of is that you are running a strange version av Java. Did you first go to http://www.java.com and install the latest java from there? It really is necessary to make sure that you are running the correct Java. If you take up a "command (DOS)" window and enter "java -version" you should get something like:

java version "1.6.0_17"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode, sharing)

But anyway, if you go first to java.com it should fix it. I can tell you I just now tested the installation as well on WindowsVista and it worked fine. Let me know if this fixes it for you!
